 Aurum

2015 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 4th Place // American Solar Challenge Champions 2016

Aurum has an asymmetrical catamaran body designed by the team's Aerodynamics Division which was projected to be more aerodynamic than any vehicle our team had ever produced before. The power losses from the electrical system were minimized through innovative design. The mechanical systems were optimized for weight reduction and an increase in overall strength and reliability. Every aspect of our designs went through countless iterations to produce this icon of sustainable engineering.

Though the team finished 4th at the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, they ended the race only 56 minutes shy of 1st place, and 4 minutes behind 3rd place. In the summer of 2016, Aurum won the American Solar Challenge, by a record breaking 11 hours, earning the team its 6th consecutive National Championship title. Michigan was also the only team to finish the race on only solar power, continuing the legacy of the University of Michigan Solar Car Team.
